What is an Equality Impact Assessment?
Equality Impact Assessments (EIAs) are a tool which enables us to assess the impact our policies and procedures may have on different people and to ensure they are as fair as possible.
We have carried out initial EIA screening on our current policies. These are available to view by clicking the links on the right hand side of this page.
Transition to the Police and Crime Commissioner
In November 2012, under the Police Reform and Social Responsiblity Act 2011, all Police Authorities will be abolished, and replaced with directly elected Police and Crime Commissioner's (PCC's). PCC's will take over the responsbility of policing and will also have additional responsibilities in respect of commissioning for community safety services.
Over the forthcoming months one of the main priorities for the Derbyshire Police Authority will be to prepare for this major transition, ensuring that new arrangements and frameworks are in place to hand over to the PCC for Derbyshire. Many of the Derbyshire Police Authority's policies will be replaced or significantly altered in order to comply with these new arrangements. For this reason EIA screening has already been carried out on many of its' existing policies and procedures. Going forward, the development of new ways of working will provide an opportunity for equality considerations to be integrated at an early stage in the process.
